I lived in three worlds.

The first was the crappy real world, where I'd always look stupid in front of girls and never find any friends--and where I had to do homework and get beat up and picked on. I didn't like the real world that much--I could never make anything go my way.

The second world was my imagination. The world of rocketboots and excaliburs. Where heroes came blasting out of the sky to save the day. In that world, I actually did stuff that mattered. I liked it there. Only I couldn't hold on to it.

The third world--it was sometimes the greatest, where everything I imagined became real. And sometimes it was the worst, where I'd rather get beat up by Rudge any day than go back there. It was the world of dreams.

And nightmares.

My adventure began with a nightmare. Or a vision. I saw this figure, a robot man--an android from some other dimension, with wires for veins. He looked at me through pouring rain, but I couldn't see his face. And he spoke, but I didn't understand. All I could do was follow. He led me to a pair of doors chained shut, and pointed. And then the nightmare began, and I nearly drowned in a pit of mud.

When I woke up, I realized I knew the place. It was a barn owned by the Japanese witch lady at the end of my street. I was creeped out, but I was too curious to stay away. So I brought my slow friend Danny as backup.

I had no idea where the dream came from. Or how it got in my head.

And I never realized that a door lets you in, but it also lets other things out.
